BITMAL project

The history of Bitmal dates back to 2017. Living as an international student in a place devoid of connections, with a vastly different culture, was an incredibly lonely experience. Maintaining faith in a land where Christianity was on the decline posed a significant challenge. During those times, Donghyeok and Youngeon, who had served together in the worship team at the same Korean church, leaned on each other for support. They shared faith, overcame difficulties, and built a camaraderie foundation, eventually leading them to start creating songs together.

 

As they wrote songs, they encountered several remarkable experiences. First, the more they composed, the more they found themselves relying on prayer and scripture. Their songs were not meant to please human ears but were crafted with the purpose of praising God. With each line they wrote, they meditated on the Word and organised their thoughts in prayer. Second, their faith was renewed. The words given by God became a shield, protecting them from the challenges of life with strength and resilience. Finally, their lives were restored. The belief that God was with them in the midst of the darkness of uncertainty and loneliness as international students became a source of light, dispelling all negative emotions.

The name ‘Bitmal’ signifies the presence of God in our lives, combining ‘light’ and ‘Word’. The essence of Bitmal lies in Romans 8:28, which speaks of ‘all things working together for good’. ‘Working together’ implies gathering scattered strengths into one. Through the Bitmal project, each person’s talents and hearts, which God has bestowed upon them, became channels for creating worship songs. Our collective purpose revolves around creating worship songs that not only exalt and glorify God but also serve as a means to convey our faith to those around us, including our friends and communities. Together, we strive to craft melodies and lyrics that resonate deeply with the spiritual essence of individuals, fostering a connection with the divine and fostering a sense of unity within the Christian community. It’s a journey where we grow closer to God and share in His presence.
